The nurse's work were truly significant they had many responsibilities such as preparing and serving the patient their meals, they also managed the physical needs of the patient, and most importantly cared for the emotional needs of the patients such as daily conversations with them.
The nurses uniform was simple, either a black or brown dress. They were supposed to be plain looking woman so no curls, no jewelry, and no hoop-skirts. These dresses were made with cotton, which could easily be washed. With their uniform they had a white or patterned apron, work shoes, and sometimes a bonnet. The nurses normally kept their hair back.
